Spongebob and Patrick (Bun Wrestling)
During the final event of the 21st annual Fry Cook Games, Spongebob and Patrick go all out in a bun wrestling match for the gold trophy. These Spongebob and Patrick puppets were made for a claymation action sequence in ‘Lego Spongebob: The Fry Cook Games’. The standalone claymation can also be viewed here.
For this animation, two large bust puppets of Spongebob and Patrick were created for closeup action shots. I began by mapping out the designs on paper, so I could have an idea of the scale of the final puppets.
Puppet Design Map
In addition to the large bust puppets, a variety of miniature puppets were made for the wide and close-up shots. Some miniature puppets were designed to match the 2D animation style of the original Spongebob Squarepants show.
Bust Puppets & Full Body Puppets
For the shots where the LEGO minifigures transform into clay, two extremely tiny clay models were designed to share the screen with the LEGO figures. Both models stand less than 4 inches tall.
Four sets of paper mouths were made for the project, with Spongebob and Patrick each getting a set of large and small mouths.
